the film starts with footage from a children's sporting event, this creates questions for the audience. as we get to the present the directer uses slow pace montage editing to give the audience an overview of the location and surroundings. this then leads to a close up of a characters face seen in light and then in shadow giving the audience the impression that there is a dark side to the character, this is also supported by the title of the film, 'day of atonement' because to atone you first have to do something wrong. through the film the use of close ups to capture faecal expressions giving the audience insight into the characters emotions. the music steadily builds, this builds the tension, this added with the film become faster and faster pace as the film counties. throughout the film the use of low key lighting and darkness gives the character a darker side but also through the use of canted angles shows a confused side to the character. coming to the end of the film the camera tracks around the bathroom until we see the reflection of the character, then as the music continues to build, the lights flash creating tension.
