Rough edit

This is a rough edit of our film

Law abidding citizenship thriller trailer

This trailer uses a number of editing techiniques to create meaning for the audience and persuade them to go and see the actually film for instance the trailer uses alot of fades to build excitement and show that time has passed in the film so we get a better understanding of the film and it draws us(the audience) in more another editing technique used was the non-diegetic sound added to the film for the explosions and soundtrack used in the background by adding sound to the explosion it emprahies how loud it is and shows importance to it. Also throughout the trailer, fast pace editing is used by having short takes of the best scenes, this connotes an action packed film which excites the audience

Making of the soundtrack

First I started off with choosing from all the instruments to get an idea of what I wanted the soundtrack to sound like but soon gave up on this idea since at the time we hadn’t filmed anything so I had no clue of what it would actually look like.

After this I decided to start again and choose the music by mood and genre because I thought it would make it easier to find the sounds I wanted at this stage we had already started filming so I could look at what we had to get an idea of what sound would fit for instance fast pace or slow pace music.

After awhile with help from other group members the soundtrack started to come together and sound suitable for our little production.
Now we have a basic soundtrack we will have to finish the filming and editing  so we can get the music in sync with the film rather then being miss timed and ill placed.

New Logo

the production logo was changed from axe power to shattered productions, this is due to it fitting the to the film genre, also the design for axe power productions was not fitting for the film due to the back ground forest, this suit the film more due to the glass symbolizing intercity better than a forest

Production log

28/02/2011- today Callum and Luke went out shoots practices shots for the scenes were protagonist one is travailing to the office, the practices were done at balham tube station. Luke began working on the music for the film on garage band. Gabrielle was doing interview for the actors.

03/03/2011-today Callum and Luke filmed the traveling scene of the surrounding area in balham and in the balham tube line. Callum edited the footage while Luke continued to create the music for the opening scene using garage band.

6/03/2011-today the group filmed the office scene, but due to custom complications we can not use footage.

14/03/2011-today the group re filmed office scene, location, conference room in chestnut grove school due to shaky camera work. this is due to a broken piece of equipment, after re-shoting we dissuaded to use a different location, we dissuaded to use callum's dads office which made up the end segment of the film

17/03/2011- today we filmed the beginning scene of the film at Callum's house, through we encounters problems due to the HD camera we used couldn't upload due to lack of software but also due to a broken tripod.

25/03/2011-today is the deadline for the rough edit, , me callum was the only person in my group in which cased problems due to the film being to long and some clips needed to be cut from the film, i also had a problem sinking the music to the film due to not being very good at garage band. Due to these problems i handed the film in with about 2 minuets of extra film, this will be sorted for the final edit

29/03/2011-today we discuss re shooting the beginning scene and the killing if protagonist two, this is due to shaky camera work and missing shots. The killing scene has to be re shot due to the original shot not working and was a bad reflection of the Hitchcock film pshyco, we will be using a reference to the film the last three days.

-today it was dissuaded that we will not kill protagonist two( played by robert black) due to lack of times for re-shot but also due to the time limit the film had in place, we also dissuaded to use theatre of the mind a convention of thriller films to kill protagonist one this is part due to using thriller conventions but also due to the footage of him being killed being filled with mistakes. we recorded the sound of the struggle during the film of the begging scene.

-today we began the editing and music creation for the film, due to use dissuading to use imbedded titles such as in a text message or in a computer film which we used in the first scene, this meant we saved time in the production stage due to only having to do the film tittle (collusion) in the typography program . there were problems with the editing due to no one in the group having experience using the program final cut. we cut the video but not the sound and so had to repeat the process.

-today the callum and luke were creating music on the program garage band. creating the music we general quite easy but a long and laborious process, a problem we had was sincineing the music with the video. to help callum watched a tutorial on using garage band.

-today the dead line for the rouge edit, there were several problems, one problem was that the music we created was to short meaning it had to be extended this caused the music to be out of sync also the film was about a minute and a half too long.

- today is the final deadline, we had to cut out large sections of the film, we removed many scenes with the killer and also many of the established shot within the train station and outside. were re-did large sections of the music to resincke it with the newly edited film. the final section needing addressing is the effects used through out the film, fades, dissolves.

day of atonement - Research

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q0Ic9G8E1g

the film starts with footage from a children's sporting event, this creates questions for the audience. as we get to the present the directer uses slow pace montage editing to give the audience an overview of the location and surroundings. this then leads to a close up of a characters face seen in light and then in shadow   giving the audience the impression that there is a dark side to the character, this is also supported by the title of the film, 'day of atonement' because to atone you first have to do something wrong. through the film the use of close ups to capture faecal expressions giving the audience insight into the characters emotions. the music steadily builds, this builds the tension, this added with the film become faster and faster pace as the film counties. throughout the film the use of low key lighting and darkness gives the character a darker side but also through the use of canted angles shows a confused side to the character. coming to the end of the film the camera tracks around the bathroom until we see the reflection of the character, then as the music continues to build, the lights flash creating tension.

The last three days-research

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw6JWltbh7Q

the film 'the last three days' opening scene can be easlly achived, and fit the conventions of a thriller, the film starts with a pov/ close up of russal crow, there is diagectic sound of a man in pain, the sound of the man slowly faides indicating his death. this is a good opening scene due to it creating enigma for the audience right from the start of the film. aslo the scene makes good use of a low angle and low key lighting, showing the dark nature of the charcter of russel crow, who was the one who killed the unseen passenger. also the camera movements mimicing the characters final breaths, all these could be easy achived in our films.
