The production company was 'New line cinema' which also made the films 'Sex and the city' and 'Valentines day' the company had a budget of around $30,000,000 and made a gross revenue of about $100,125,000 it was also the main distribution company for the film. The film starred Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt who at the time were both very big stars. The film was shot across Los Angeles. The film was put up for a number of awards and won Best film editing at the oscars and numerous awards at MTV awards for instance Best Movie, best Villain and most desirable male. As you would guess the film was critically acclaimed and received many positive comments from the critics, Roger Ebert called it 'A dark, grisly, horrifying and intelligent thriller' while Andy Spletzer called it 'An imaginative and disturbing work' But like all films it had negative reviews to one critic said 'Seven is one of the most disappointing horror films in a long time'.
I believe the stars and director was the main reason for the films initial success because those big names would of brought in a real mass audience since they appeal to so many people.
I would classify Seven as a Major film instead of a independent film because it had a 30 Million budget,Starred two big celebrities in Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman and was its own main distribution company for it.
A good piece of trivia about the film is Brad Pitt had to have surgery on his arm when he slipped in the rain and put it through a car window.
